We’ve crowned Edinburgh’s best party people, nights out, brunches and venues. Here, we reveal the winners of the first ever What’s On in Nightlife Awards.

Edinburgh‘s International Storytelling Festival is one of the most admired storytelling events in the world and the largest of its kind – both from a programming and participation perspective, encompassing a wealth of cultures, traditions and styles. Enchanting performances, workshops, talks and events centred around traditional storytelling. This celebration of live oral traditions and cultural diversity brings together Scottish and international storytellers and musicians, to celebrate rhythms and methods of storytelling. Inspired by the Scottish ceilidh tradition and its sense of togetherness, this is an inviting community gathering full of tales, anecdotes, music, songs and ballads. What makes it special? From storytelling performances to panel discussions, and an engaging family strand of storytelling activities around Halloween, there’s something here for all Festival-goers to get involved with. Although each event has a structure, there will always be an informal and improvised element to the performance, as the magic of live storytelling is the immediate connection between teller and listener. The Festival began in 1989 and grows every year, with more people engaging with charismatic storytellers using their words to spin bridges between worlds.

It’s Christmas! A time to get ridiculously merry as we start holidays, and on Edinburgh’s Santa Pub Crawl we’re going to find out if you’re actually naughty or nice! Get dressed up as Christmassy as you dare, and then dare to complete the challenges given to you throughout the night. Some of them are naughty, some of them nice, so by the end of the bar tour, we’ll know exactly which side of the list you’re on! Here’s what Naughty Santa is giving you: FREE ENTRY TO 4 BARS! FREE SHOT AT EACH BAR! DRINK DEALS EVERYWHERE! PHOTOGRAPHER ALL NIGHT! WHAT TO EXPECT? So you’re all dressed up in either your Rudolph outfit, or Christmas Jumper, or snowman gear, or maybe just some wrapping paper 😉 and you head out ready for your Edinburgh SantaCon 2019. You will meet our fabulous, dressed hosts at the door where you’ll show your ticket, and in return receive your Santa Pub Crawl for the night. You’ll head to four more great bars/clubs where everyone is in the Christmas spirit, ready to drink and dance the night away, where you will, of course, receive your free shots and exclusive drinks deals all night. Let’s get Christmassy!

Burns Night is annually celebrated in Scotland on or around January 25. It commemorates the life of the bard (poet) Robert Burns, who was born on January 25, 1759. The day also celebrates Burns’ contribution to Scottish culture. His best-known work is Auld Lang Syne. Many types of food are associated with Burns Night. These include cock-a-leekie soup (chicken and leek soup); haggis; neeps (mashed turnips or swedes) and tatties (mashed potatoes); cranachan (whipped cream mixed with raspberries and served with sweet oat wafers); and bannocks (a kind of bread cooked on a griddle).
